13 SEPTEMBER 1993: A HANDSHAKE THAT TWO YEARS LATER WOULD COST THE LIFE OF THE ISTRAELI PRIME MINISTER RABIN FOR WHOM ‘PEACE IS NEGOTIATED WITH ENEMIES’. Together with Yasser Arafat, leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), they signed what went down in history as the Oslo Accords. It was the first time that the two countries recognised each other as legitimate partners and it was the first time that the two leaders shook hands in public.
We share the creative position expressed by maestro Daniel Barenboim who, in this interview, criticises yet another peace conference in Annapolis (USA) in 2007: we need a new moral imagination!
