Women’s G20 for a feminine world

Women’s G20 for a feminine world

This year, Italy holds the presidency of the G20 and at the end of October in Rome the heads of state and government of 19 countries plus representatives of the European Union, which together represent for 85% of world GDP, will meet.

They are the target of the Women20 summit – the G20 group that deals with gender equality and represents civil society – held in Rome from today until Thursday, July 15: three days to discuss women’s work and entrepreneurship, the opportunities offered by digital development, access to education and care services, equal presence in decision-making places, but also the wage and technology gap, the fight against gender stereotypes and violence against women.

“At the next G20 I may be the only woman.
Gender equality by 2030″….

This is how Ursula von der Leyen, in her speech at the G20 of women, organized in Rome, recalled how long the road to effective gender equality is still long.

The Women20 will not only serve to indicate the direction of change but also the concrete objectives to achieve it, with proposals and strategies to increase women’s employment and invest in women’s entrepreneurship, improve care and assistance services, think about “a global action plan against gender stereotypes and for cultural change” and to put the fight against violence against women at the center of the international agenda.

“For the first time, the G20 is broadly addressing gender issues while traditionally focused on economic issues….

Equality, women’s empowerment are underlying strategic goals, the interaction between politics and civil society is central to achieving them. We have an opportunity to realize the full potential of women. Not only will it increase sustainable growth, but it will also be imperative for the existence of creative and inclusive societies supported by an active citizenry.” (from Laura Sabbadini’s keynote address)
