Brotherhood Let us build a future without hostility

By adopting – in December 2020 – the resolution International Day of Human Fraternity (document A/75/L.52), the UN Assembly called on Member States and entities within the United Nations system to support every 4 February – starting in 2021 – opportunities to promote intercultural and interreligious dialogue, both locally and internationally, in response to growing religious hatred around the world.

The date is not accidental, it was determined by the meeting that took place in 2019 in Abu Dhabi between Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad Al-Tayyib, who signed the “Document on human brotherhood for world peace and common coexistence”: it constitutes an epoch-making turning point in the function of dialogue between peoples and between religions. Peace emerges as the ultimate goal on which to build the future and overcome all forms of hostility.

Islam and Christianity can really work for the common values they have: the figure of Mary, who for both is the mother of humanity and the teacher and example of faith. Today it is more urgent than ever to work for the common good of humanity in order to be credible religions. A religion that closes itself within the walls of a building and defends only its own individual values cannot be credible. (Source: vaticannews.va).
