We rejoice with the communities of Portugal: our Blessed Maria Droste has been chosen as Patroness of the Diocese of Oporto

Blessed Maria Droste, of German origin, despite having lived in Oporto for only five years of her short but intense life, was chosen as one of the candidates for the nomination as Patron of the city’s diocese.

Her spiritual greatness is still too little known within the Catholic Church. Suffice it to say that our Blessed Lady is considered, next to St Gertrude of Helfta, the second great mystic of the Heart of Jesus in the German-speaking area.

“Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart, with her life entirely centred on Jesus and love for his Heart, made herself an instrument of God and a true evangeliser, a model for all of a radical commitment to Christ and his Church. She lived these two passions: Jesus and the poor, especially the girls for whom she worked so hard, with total dedication, impassioned by the desire to love more and better”.

“Devoted to the Sacred Heart” by Christa Bisang is the first book about the Blessed who, by divine revelation, anticipated Our Lady of Fatima’s messages of salvation.

The text reconstructs the story from her upbringing in one of the most aristocratic families in Westphalia to her entry into the order of the Good Shepherd Sisters, first in Munich and then in Lisbon.
