World Day against Female Genital Mutilation and Infibulation

Deep-rooted gender inequality that cuts off rights to a full life

A day to put an end to these practices and celebrations and instead celebrate with the women and girls who have been protected from these practices.

“Like any other form of gender-based violence, FGM is closely linked to power relations between men and women. To put an end to the practice, it is essential to work on its root causes and thus question gender roles. This means informing and raising awareness in communities and involving men and boys, in order to tackle toxic masculinity and social norms that perpetuate inequalities and gender stereotypes, while empowering women and girls,’ says Claudia Caldera, AIDOS Project Coordinator on harmful practices, who today launches the video on the gender transformative approach, to inform but also to make available and disseminate a useful information, training and awareness-raising tool for those working on FGM, for women, activists, the communities involved and for those working to achieve gender equality.
